INTRODUCING PROFESSOR PISTON

Don Buckham is passionate about the automotive industry. Growing up, he was fascinated with all things motors and has always loved anything to do with cars.

After graduating high school he enrolled in a computer systems engineering degree at the University of Southern Queensland, thinking that this would satisfy his need to fix, build and improve things in a tangible way. However, his desire to work with engines and get greasy led him to quit his degree halfway through and drive straight to the best dealership in town to get his mechanical certificate. Upon arriving at Mercedes Benz and being told there were no apprenticeship positions available for at least six months, he offered to work for free until they agreed to sign him up as an apprentice. After two weeks sweeping floors and running parts, his apprenticeship was secured and he was on his way to his becoming a qualified automotive technician.

Don completed his apprenticeship in only two and a half years as his desire to learn was insatiable. If he wasn't working on cars, he was reading about and studying cars, and even when he sleeps he dreams cars. The number of apprentices that had the opportunity to diagnose and repair complex electrical issues in Mercedes Benz vehicles worth over $200,000 would be minimal, but Don thrived on the pressure to prove himself a master of everything automotive.

After a few years working as a qualified automotive technician, Don decided it was time for a sea change and moved from his home town of Toowoomba to the Sunshine Coast and he has never looked back.

Throughout his career, Don has worked in various roles in both independent workshops, high performance vehicle fabrication shops and high volume car dealerships. By 2018 he was overseeing multiple Service Departments across the Sunshine Coast as Group Service Manager, managing over 150 staff members across the Sunshine Coast region.

Don's ultimate goal has always been to create his own workshop from the ground up, taking the best from all his experiences gained over the years, and moulding it into a workshop that demonstrates the best of automotive after sales services.

So after much thought and consideration, he resigned from his position as Group Service Manager to become Professor Piston, and to build something better than has ever been offered before.

You can be assured that when you choose Sunshine Coast Car Service (SCCS) for servicing, it will not be be an unpleasant experience. He believes in advising his customers as how to best to maintain their vehicles and will always ensure that the work being carried out is of the highest standard. You will get honest advice on how to best to maintain your vehicle to ensure the safety and longevity of your car over time, even if it sometimes hurts your feelings. He is a strong advocate for being mechanically sympathetic to your vehicle and will tell you as much.
